Notes – Qualification for the 2012 NCAA Championships (March 22-25, at Ohio State) was based on a formula combination of Fencer Seed Factor/FSF (40%; from regular-season dual meets) and Regional finish (60%). The Mid-Atlantic/South Region has seven automatic berths to the 2012 NCAA Championships in women's sabre. There is a maximum of two entries per school in each weapon. NCAA bids became official on March 13. In some cases, coaches had an option in selecting which fencers would comprise their entries in the NCAAs (if additional fencers meet the qualification standard). There also were two NCAA at-large spots in each weapon, open to fencers from any region (again, as long as team already has not qualified two in the particular weapon) ... details below.

NCAA Bids – Region's seven automatic bids went to: Princeton's Stone & Wheeler, PSU's Aksamit & Glon, Duke's Ward, UNC's Litynski & Temple's Thompson (Penn's Francisckocicz received at-large spot)
Analysis – The region's eight NCAA qualifiers were seeded 1-2-3-4-5-7-9-10 entering the Regional ... Penn's Dominika Franciskowicz was on the bubble (#9 seed, placed 8th) and ultimately received an at-large bid for her fourth career trip to the NCAAs (Duke's Becca Ward & Temple's Kamali Thompson also now are 4-time NCAA qualifiers) ... Duke's Sean Cadley (#10 seed) could have made a push for the NCAAs, but she placed 11th ... Franciskowicz had key final-pool wins over the fencers who reached the 2011 NCAA final (5-4 vs. Ward and 5-2 vs. Princeton's Eliza Stone) and added another huge win over the Regional's top seed, 5-3 vs. PSU All-American Monica Aksamit (those three wins helped counteract 5-1 loss vs. Cadley) ... PSU's Jessica Russo (#8 seed) was the only top-12 seed that did not reach the final pool-of-12 (Princeton freshman Sarak Park was seeded 15th and placed 11th).
