NCAA Fencing - 2011 West Regional Seedings

An assortment of 57 fencers from the four West Region schools (Stanford, Air Force, UC San Diego and Cal Tech) will be in action at the 2011 NCAA West Regional, on Sat., March 5 at the Air Force Academy's Cadey Gymnasium East Gym.

Saturday's results will count to 60% of the individual qualification for the NCAA Championships, to be held March 24-27 at Ohio State. The other 40% is based on each individual's "fencer seeding factor" (i.e. regular-season dual-meet bouts). The relative strength factors are listed below, shown as seeds 1-2-3, etc. (in some cases, there are significant gaps between certain seeds).

The West Regional format in each weapon will be one pool in each weapon, with each fencer facing the others and placements based on won-loss record

The NCAA Championships again will feature 24 competitors in all six weapons, with each of the four regions receiving a varying number of automatic berths in each weapon. Each school can qualify a maximum of two fencers in each weapon for the NCAA Championship. The West Region's allotment of automatic berths is two in each weapon except men's epee (3). Following the Regional, the West also can submit two candidates in each weapon as "at-large" nominees for the NCAAs (there are two total at-large spots available in each weapon, for the respective 24-fencer fields in each weapon).

CollegeFencing360 will be on-site at Air Force ... stay-tuned to this blog and the CB360updates Twitter feed (feed conveniently posted on CF360 main page).
