• The Midwest's pre-Regional women's foil seeds predicted the final standings for the top-5, as OSU's Oksana Dmytruk (#1) and Lindsay Knauer (#4), Northwestern's Sam Nemecek (#2), and ND's #3 Hayley Reese (#3) and Adi Nott (#5) all matched their initial seeds. These five fencers appear to be locks for the Midwest Region's five allocated women's foil spots into the NCAA Championships.

• Dmytruk – the 2008 NCAA runner-up – won all nine of her bouts on Saturday, finishing +60 (87-27) in total-point differential spanning five pool bouts (+19) and four in the DE (+41). Her final run to the title included wins over Detroit's Ashley Colbert (15-0), Northwestern's Meredith Baskies (15-4), ND's Reese (15-0) and Northwestern's Nemecek (12-3). Reese was the only fencer to register more than four points vs. Dmytruk all day (Dmytruk's pool bouts included two 5-0 shutouts, a 5-1 win, a 5-2 win and a 5-3 victory over Colbert).
• ND's Radmilla Sarkisova (#10 initial seed/#11 after pools) made the most noteworthy jump, finishing sixth in the final standings – with her big win coming vs. Northwestern's Camille Provencal-Dayle (#6 DE seed) in the round-of-16.

• Knauer (a 2008 All-American) was in danger of finishing outside the top-8, with the double-elimination format giving her a second chance after losing 11-15 loss to Northwestern's Baskies in the round-of-16. Knauer stayed alive with wins over Lawrence's Dorothea Schnur (15-3) and Northwestern's Devynn Patterson (15-1), followed by a classic quarterfinal battle against Nott (15-13). Losses to Nemecek (12-15 semifinal) and Reese (8-15; third-place bout) ended Knauer's see-saw day, with a fourth-place finish.
• One of the most noteworthy upsets in the pools was OSU's Holly McKibben (#12 initial seed) posting a 5-1 win over Northwestern's Patterson (#6), who dropped to a #10 seed for the DE and ended up ninth.
