Here's how the men's fencers will competing on day-1 of the 2011 NCAA Fencing Championships. The day opens with four groups of six in each weapon, fencing round-robin (5-touch bouts; 5 bouts each). The remaining rounds are typical dual-meet format, with three fencers competing against three other fencers (nine total bouts in the round, three for each fencer).
Each fencer has 14 bouts on Thursday and nine more on Friday. Each win counts one point to the team total. Thursday' bouting starts at 10:00 a.m., Friday starts at 9:30. All of the bouting will take place at Ohio State's French Fieldhouse – except for the medal rounds, to be held in the adjacent St. John Arena. There will be semifinal, 15-touch bouts in each weapon, following by the 15-touch title bouts. Note that the medal-round results do not count to the team score.
The women follow on Saturday and Sunday, with similar format and timing. The team awards ceremony will follow the women's medal round, on Sunday afternoon.
